Nothing We Can Do!

Romans 3:21-31
“Daddy, can I give Austin my piano keyboard?” eight-year-old Elizabeth asked. Elizabeth is a giving child. Most of the time it stems from an affectionate heart, at other times I worry it’s because she wants others, such as her friend Austin, to like her.
The poor child comes by it naturally. After all, I have been a people-pleaser from the word “Go.” I like it when those around me are happy. It is hard for me to do unpopular things–like say “no”–because I want everyone to like me.
Sometimes I catch that attitude slipping into my relationship with God. I feel I have to do good things to earn his favor, his forgiveness, and his love. Fortunately, I couldn’t be more wrong! Because of God’s grace, I don’t have to do anything to earn God’s love or acceptance. I still want to do good things, not to earn God’s love, but because he loves me.
Do you have people-pleasing habits that slip into your relationship with God? Let go of the stress and relax! Thanks to God’s grace, none of us have to earn God’s love!
