2 Corinthians 8:16-24
My friend’s husband hates the Church. He pounces on every failure of those who claim the name of Christ and of Christianity in general. He even knows the Bible pretty well–so he can use it against those who claim to follow it!
For some reason, he has a soft spot for me, despite my faith. It is a charge and honor I take seriously. Knowing him also helps me understand 2 Corinthians chapter 8. Some people say, “It does not matter what others think; I am only concerned with God’s approval. Someone will always be critical.”
Yes, God’s approval should be our primary goal. Still, what humans think is also important; because the way they view us may be the way they see God. If they see us living lives of joy, faith, and unquestionable honesty–lives they can respect–they will be more likely to curb their negative beliefs about the God we live for. Though we are not responsible for another’s relationship with God, we are responsible for the example we set.
