Trusting God’s Promises
July 20th, 2012
1 Samuel 30:9-20
Victory does not come without our dealing with adversity and disappointment. We would like to think that success in our Christian walk is easy, but more times than not we will face difficult challenges along the way.
David had been promised victory in his undertaking, but he immediately faced a great disappointment when one-third of his army was forced to stay behind due to exhaustion. This setback came even before they faced the larger enemy force in battle. Many leaders may have been tempted to conclude that this was all a bad idea; but David fell back on the promise that he had received from the Lord that, “You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue” (v. 8b).
How important it is for us to hold fast to the promises of God. His promises never fail, even when the current circumstances seem to indicate a difficult time ahead. We must keep our focus on God’s promises and not on the circumstances. Indeed, he is for us!
