Holy Boldness

Exodus 5:1-9

Imagine Moses standing before perhaps the most powerful ruler in the world demanding that Pharaoh “let his people go.” How things had changed. Not long before Moses had stood alone before a burning bush in the desert saying, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh?” (Exod. 3:11b). This boldness was uncharacteristic of Moses. Nevertheless, there he stood, knowing he was called by God, and that the words he spoke were the words of God!

It’s not as though Moses is the only example of “holy boldness” in the story of God. Think of David before Goliath; Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego before Nebuchadnezzar; Queen Esther before King Xerxes; Peter on the day of Pentecost; and Paul before Felix and Agrippa. These were men and women who were called of God to speak the word of God without fear.

Perhaps this is a day to listen for the call of God, to stand up and speak out.
