Exodus 2:1-10
A story is told of a faithful Christian widow who lived next door to an outspoken atheist. He was constantly rankled by her hymn singing and vocal prayers. One day, through an open window, he heard her at prayer. She prayed, “Lord, you taught us to pray for our daily bread. My check won’t arrive for another week. I don’t have a thing left in the house to eat. I am trusting in you to provide.
The atheist thought, “Here is my chance to teach her a lesson.” He went to the store and bought two bags of groceries. He carefully placed the bags on her doorstep, rang the doorbell, and quickly hid behind a bush. The woman opened the door and immediately began to shout praises to God for the miraculous answer to her prayer. The atheist leapt from behind the bush and loudly proclaimed, “No. It wasn’t God. It was me. God had nothing to do with it!” The woman immediately thrust her hands upward in prayer, “Lord, you heard my prayer. You met my need, and you even got the devil to pay the bill!”
