Romans 14:13-21

It’s amazing what we sometimes choose to argue about. I remember a heated discussion among a women’s group whose members couldn’t agree on the best method for raising funds to benefit world missions. Several of the women wanted to continue the “tried and true” practice of holding a ham and bean supper. A few wanted to host a fashion show, while others thought an auction would bring in a larger return. The debate grew more and more contentious; it seemed they were close to a stalemate and one or two might even walk out!

One of the newest members brought them up short by reading a portion of a letter from a young church couple serving in Eastern Europe. “Yesterday, a convert of our church was beaten and arrested when she returned home. Please keep praying for us. It is your love and faith that sustain us.”

It’s easy to get caught up in things that don’t really matter–things that overshadow the important things like loving God and each other.
