Have Some Humility
August 21st, 2011
1 Peter 5:1-11
In Andrew Murray’s book, Humility, the Beauty of Holiness, he defines humility as the place of entire dependence on God. Pride is the loss of humility and is the root of every sin and evil. Murray goes on to say that if a person wants to be like Christ, that humility will be their primary characteristic. In Matthew 11:29-30, Jesus says to us, “learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
In Matthew 5:5, Jesus tells us that we are blessed when we are meek. We might think piety would be the highest standard when measuring a Christlike person, when in reality it is humility. Jesus calls us to take on humility as we totally depend on him.
To be truly humble we need to be thankful.
