It’s A Mystery

One friend said, “Talking about the mystery of God is simply laziness on the part of the speaker.” If our only reflection on God’s character, revelation, and activity is a shrug and the word “mystery,” we have not engaged the truth adequately with our mind, heart, and soul. However if we understand that whatever language we use to speak of God falls short because we are talking about God Almighty, God the creator, God as three in one, then the claim of mystery is an essential confession.

Romans chapter 11, verse 33 occurs as a capstone to several chapters in which Paul wrestles to express God’s ways. Paul calls us to remember that complete knowledge of God is beyond you and me, and therefore contains mystery. He also asserts confidence in God’s agenda of grace for all people.
