Matthew 7:7-23

Sometimes it’s not the march through enemy lines where one aggressively wins. Rather, victory is often won in the spirit of Christ before his accusers, saying nothing, or Martin Luther’s declaration, “Here I stand, I can do no other.”

“Standing firm” is a way of refusing to abandon one’s opinion or beliefs. Much depends on what one believes, that the cause is worthy of standing firm and not some foolish whim.

Dr. Phineas Bresee…a man of uncompromising faith. His position was: “On the great fundamentals we are all agreed. Pertaining to things not essential to salvation, we have liberty. To attempt to emphasize that which is not essential to salvation and thus to divide forces, would be a crime. An unwillingness for others to enjoy the liberty that we enjoy in reference to doctrines not vital to salvation is bigotry, from which the spirit of holiness withdraws itself.”
