1 Peter 1:3-12

Persons who lived through the Great Depression of the 1930s never forgot what it was like. One day certain people were rich. The next day their wealth was gone forever. Lives that had been comfortable and secure were suddenly filled with uncertainty. Persons lost jobs they expected to have for years to come. Many lost their homes, their farms, and their businesses. Families went hungry. Fear was common. Everything many people had always counted on was suddenly gone.

What are you counting on?

Some place their hope in their age, health or physical strength. Some put their confidence in family or friends. Some trust in their wealth. All these things can pass away. None of us will be young forever. Health and physical strength can become a memory. Loved ones can die. Families can drift apart. Friends we count on may not always be there for us. Our wealth can be gone in a moment’s time.

Our hope is in Jesus Christ who will never fail, and lives forever.
