He Died For Us
July 10th, 2011
1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
A man who had been ill for years was on a list waiting for a liver transplant. He waited and waited. He endured endless testing and trips to the hospital. He always had to be ready. Then one night the hospital called. They had an organ donor and he was to come immediately. He was relieved, happy, and frightened all at the same time.
As he rode to the hospital a thought occurred to him. He was receiving a new chance at life because another person had just died. Suddenly his confused emotions of happiness and fear gave way to overwhelming gratitude. Someone cared enough about persons like him that they offered to donate their organs. Their death was giving him new life.
The Scripture says Jesus died for us. Focus on those words. He died for us so that we might have life, life now and life forever. Even though we may not be able to fully explain it, the cross should fill our hearts with overwhelming gratitude.
