What Wonderful Gifts!
July 1st, 2011
1 Peter 4:1-11
The stage is set. The cast is in position. Jesus is at the center. Mary is praising. Lazarus is proclaiming. Martha is preparing. Can you relate? For Mary nothing is better than sitting at the feet of Jesus. For Lazarus nothing is better than proclaiming the wonderful things Jesus has done. And Martha thinks that nothing would ever get done were it not for her!
They are not all praising, not all proclaiming, not all preaching; each has a special ability given by God. If we were all preparing, who would be proclaiming? If we were all praising, who would be preparing?
Mary and Lazarus need Martha to prepare because their focus is on praise and proclamation. Martha needs Mary and Lazarus because sometimes she gets so wrapped up in the details that she forgets to praise.
Up front or behind the scenes, God has gifted each of us for his purpose. Each of us should be found “faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms” (4:10).
