Only One Sheep

Luke 15:1-7
On the farm, cattle–rather than sheep–were the preferred animals. They were fed, doctored, and ultimately eaten. The winter months were particularly difficult as subzero temperatures whipped through the pasture.
Sometimes the mothers would calve during the winter, finding a deserted place to give birth. It was important to find that mother and her baby before the little one froze. They would drive all over the pasture, looking for that little calf, hoping they could find it in time.
Although their motives represented a cash crop of beef, they also cared about the welfare of the animals. Those baby calves were totally helpless until found them and herded back to the barn.
How much deeper is the perseverance of the Lord who searches for that one lost sheep. His passion for the lost never changes. He uses every resource to bring the lost ones home.
