Prayer For Mercy
May 19th, 2011
Psalm 6
I went to shovel the front step and sidewalk. As I worked, a boy came with a shovel. He asked for $10 to finish the work. In the past, boys would ask to clean the steps, then either take the money and run or leave the job unfinished. I did not want to take the chance.
The boy came closer with tears in his eyes, “Sir, I have not eaten all day. My mother is drunk. Please help me out. Let me clean the steps for you, and give me $10 for food.” I heard his cry for mercy, and felt that I should help him. His tearing eyes became a smiling face.
Psalm 6 describes David’s pain and plea for God’s mercy. God heard him. David concludes, “The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer” (v. 9). We need God’s mercy in our difficult and sometimes hurtful circumstances. His mercy is absolutely free.
