Luke 11:25-35

It is said that missionaries who left home to go to foreign shores in the 18th or 19th centuries often packed some of their belongings in their coffins. They knew that many of them would not return home. This was true commitment to the cause of Christ, and counting the cost was a part of the surrender.

Nothing is free, and following Jesus often comes with great cost. For some, choosing Jesus means complete isolation. For others, it may mean living on less income while in ministry. The real question becomes: “Can I really trust God to care for me?”

Jesus trusted the Father and took his cross to Calvary. He wants us to trust him and take our crosses wherever he leads. Our cross might be one of those mentioned above, or it might just mean living our lives in such a way that others know we belong to Christ.
