Thanksgiving In April
April 17th, 2011
Psalm 118
We have come to holy week. The week starts with a parade of praise. Psalm 118 is a call to thanksgiving.
We find many phrases repeated. These are words seemingly underlined and highlighted to capture our attention. Let them give direction to our thanksgiving.
Four times we hear powerful declarations and echoing responses of “his love endures forever” (vv. 1-4). Declare his love.
Twice in verses 6-7 we are reminded, “The LORD is with me.” These words hold us in our fear. Celebrate his embrace.
Enemies surround (vv. 10-11), but “in the name of the LORD I cut them off.” Name your challenges and sound the name of the Lord.
“The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!” (vv. 15-16). Recount his activity. Now we are ready to join the Palm Sunday crowd and cry, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD” (v. 26a). Holy week–we start with thanksgiving!
