Luke 19:1-10

Crowds get in the way of seeing, especially if one is short. Some give up; others get creative. Jesus was coming, and curiosity drove Zacchaeus up a tree. All he wanted to do was see.

Luke tells us Jesus was passing through. The implication is that he had no intention of stopping. However, a man up a tree caused a change. Jesus looked up at the man looking down. A murmur must have come from the crowd; the hated tax collector had locked eyes with Jesus. Rather than a rebuke, Jesus extended an invitation. He invited himself to Zacchaeus’s house. Jesus slowed his pace; he changed his plans so they could talk. What a conversation it must have been.

Evangelism and disciple-making are about engaging people in life on life. It will probably take us longer than one afternoon, but conversation by conversation, significant things can happen.
Who are you purposefully meeting with today?
