The Christlike Christ
April 3rd, 2011
James 1:22-27; 2:14-16
It is not enough to know what is right; we must do what is right. James, the half-brother of Jesus, continued to help followers of Christ understand this concept. We must do more than just read or listen to the Word; we must be followers and doers of the Word. He says, “So then, if you know the good you ought to do and don’t do it, you sin” (James 4:17, TNIV).
God’s divine plan for every believer is to be like Christ. This likeness would include both our Lord’s attitude (Phil. 2:5) and actions. Jesus told his disciples, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you” (John 13:15).
We must be compassionate, caring, and committed to the needs of others. At times, we must take control of the situation in order to make a difference and grow in our challenges to do more for building the kingdom. He is keeping a record; he is counting. More significantly, he is counting on you!
