Because I Love You, Daddy!
February 17th, 2011
Ephesians 5:21-33
My daughter and I had an important conversation about things that, I thought, she was not supposed to do. She had a good argument, but mine was shaped by my culture, my context, and even my family background–some of which she understood, but did not completely relate to. I knew there was nothing inherently wrong with her decisions, but I was still uncomfortable. So, knowing that there was a generational and even cultural gap, I expressed to her how uncomfortable her decision was making me. I was blessed when she responded, “OK, even though I don’t completely agree or understand where you are coming from, I won’t do that, Daddy, because I love you and respect you.”
There are many things that we don’t understand in the way others think or act. Still, the love of Christ compels us to submit to one another. “Do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather serve one another in love” (Gal. 5:13).
