A Very Simple Task

Ecclesiastes 12:9-14
We are busy people. Some of us less than others, but in general we are extremely busy people. Many of us act as if our duty is to “outdo God” with our busy religious activity. The reality is less complicated than that. God’s requirement is simple: fear him with gratitude in our hearts and keep his commandments with love.
King Solomon learned this simple but essential truth at the end of his life. He had enjoyed possessions, fame, prestige, and even a great tenure as a king of Israel. He had spent his life searching for wisdom, pleasures, and productivity. Inspired by God’s wisdom, Solomon realized that everything we are and do will ultimately be judged in light of God’s heart and plan for us.
It is never too late to understand that the ultimate duty of human beings is to find pleasure in God’s presence, searching his heart, and by loving him with all our heart, mind, and soul.
