A Real Imitation
February 10th, 2011
3 John
We are created in the image of God (Gen. 1:27). When we come to salvation through inviting Jesus as Lord into our lives, we are born again by his Spirit and are called by his name (John 3:3, 5). We are God’s creation, created in Christ to do good works (Eph. 2:10). What a marvelous part of God’s plan for us!
When the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us as new believers in Christ, he brings his personality with him. As we yield to the authority of the Holy Spirit, surrendering our own authority, his personality eclipses our own. This causes us to overflow with the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). The fruit of the Spirit is inherently good because it comes from God. As children of God, we are given a way to produce this good fruit instead of evil.
As we submit to the Holy Spirit within us, the Spirit helps us become imitators of God, of all that is good (Eph. 5:1).
