Ephesians 4:1-10
The word “bond” has negative connotations. There are those who are in bondage to habits and addictions. However, “bond” can also be a positive. Ephesians 4:3 says, “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
What does it mean to “make every effort”? Must one roll over and play dead just to keep peace?
I have a history of neighbors liking me. I am a good neighbor, friendly and courteous, mind my own business, play with their dog, talk to their kids, and bake great cookies. Once I had a situation where no matter what I did, there was no peace. There was the loud stereo in a thin-walled apartment. I politely asked and asked that the stereo be turned down, but the response was, “I cannot live like a hermit, like you do.” I could have kept peace, but how was I to study with the thumping bass on this stereo?
Recall a situation where you tried to keep peace, but your rights were being trampled. How did you handle the situation?
