Getting Closer, Getting Stronger
January 14th, 2011
Ephesians 2:11-22
One summer, we visited old Yankee Stadium and sat 50 feet above the foul pole in right field. I know every believer wants to be closer to God, but I am not sure you can do it in a ballpark. The binoculars helped to bring things a bit closer, but we were still far removed from the action.
Still far away is where we were spiritually before we knew Christ and his grace. We were on the outside, lost and hopeless, with no chance of getting close enough to experience what he had planned for us.
Through Christ and the sacrifice of his life, we are close to God–not by proximity but by relationship. We are no longer his enemies, but his people, close enough to worship and listen to his gentle leading.
We are no longer outsiders. We are now insiders by his grace. God and all he has for us is closer than our next heartbeat.
