Micah 2:1-13
They were listening to recordings of music from their church when Sophie’s granddaughter remarked, “Wow, that was before I was even born!” She is in her 20s, and cannot conceive of what life was like before her birth. History often may romanticize the past. The prophet Micah’s picture of eighth century B.C. Israel’s social history helps us see that in many ways life was no different from what it is today. Technology has changed, but the human heart is the same.
While we shake our heads in disgust for our human society, Micah sheds a ray of light into the darkness of our unjust and proud society. God remembers the upright. Who are they? “Upright” is an old-fashioned word that means moral decency, integrity, and goodness.
Can this apply to 21st-century Christians? to me? Dare I check the Ten Commandments today? Am I upright?
