God Uses Unlikely People

Genesis 45:1-15

All through Scripture, we find stories reminding us that God is a God who redeems people. One of my favorite stories in all of Scripture is the story of Joseph. Joseph was sold into slavery, proclaimed dead by his brothers, and thrown into an Egyptian prison, yet when he looked back over his life he realized that God was working all things for the redemption of God’s people.

Throughout the Scriptures, God uses unlikely people like Joseph for the redemption of God’s people. God, who is slow to anger and abounding is steadfast love, uses the circumstances of our lives to redeem us. Not only that, but God begins to use our lives to continue the story He started thousands of years ago when God called Abram and told him that he would be a blessing to all of creation. God, who created all things, is able to use the circumstances of our lives to lavish grace. As I look back over my life, I am able to affirm that God has redeemed certain situations in my life to enable God’s story to be continued.

We all need to read the Bible stories because in them we find characters like ourselves. Some people identify with Joseph and his being unappreciated by his family. Some people identify with Peter and his quickness of speech and hasting to action gettin him in trouble. I identify with John, his tempet and his affection for Jesus. As we study these people we find ourselves and learn how to depend on God in our lives as they did.
