The Golden Boy
October 4th, 2010
Genesis 37:2-11
It’s hard to be the golden boy: good looks, intelligence, athleticism, charisma, special affection from others. Sure, it’s harder to be the child who never feels good enough, but being the golden child carries special challenges of its own.
It’s hard to be faithful as a golden child. It’s hard to bear those expectations. It’s hard not to take advantage of the situation. It’s hard not to get a big head. It’s hard to be part of the team. It’s hard to be a servant.
For all the golden children out there, the challenge is to serve with humility. The Heavenly Father, who loves us all equally, has blessed us to bless others. We need the golden children to take their places on the team and serve with passion for the good of all.
For all of us who are less than golden, the challenge is to serve with confidence. The Heavenly Father who loves us all equally has also blessed us to bless others. We need everyone everywhere to take our places in the mission of God, for no one’s place can be filled by another.
