A Sacrificial Spirit

May 31st, 2023

Romans 12:1-8

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I am extremely thankful that we don’t live in Old Testament times. I’m thankful that we don’t have to keep a list of our wrongdoings, hunt down the appropriate sacrificial necessities, and then confess to our pastor so he or she can arrange for our redemption. I can only imagine dropping by the pastor’s office one afternoon, casually asking if she was busy while trying to hide a goat and two doves behind my back.

Because of God’s great love, we don’t have to jump through a series of hoops just to apologize to the Father because we did whatever “it” was again. Jesus ended the need for ritual sacrifice on the cross. It’s a free gift that comes with a responsibility. God wants more than eternal life for His kids. He wants us to live our lives in a way that reflects Him. We are to live sacrificial, transformed lives that reflect God’s mercy and love not only for us, but for everyone around us.

Ask God to help you to have a sacrificial spirit as you go about your day. Allow Him to show you what that might look like for you.

So thankful Jesus accepts us and requires no sacrifice. Just a repentant heart. God is so merciful. His love for us is unconditional. Thank you, Jesus….
