Bequeathing Wisdom

May 30th, 2023

Ecclesiastes 7:8-14

I once knew someone who decided to bequeath the family treasure to their grown child instead of waiting until they passed. That “inheritance” turned out to be an old rusty canister of rocks that the parent had collected as a child. The family rock collection was, of course, just meant for a good laugh.

Perhaps you or someone you know has received an inheritance from a loved one. Large sums of money, several acres of land, the old family home, carefully planned investments, or priceless heirlooms—whatever the gift, inheritances tend to be something of great value.

God provides His followers quite an inheritance. Not only do we get the eternal treasures outlined in Scripture, but we’re given treasures to enjoy in this life as well. Ecclesiastes states, “Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun” (7:11).

Growing in godly wisdom is a skill that requires daily perfecting. Sharing that wisdom with those you love is an inheritance that can be enjoyed together. Whom do you know that needs the benefit of your God-given wisdom?
