Draw Near

March 4th, 2023

Hebrews 10:19-25

The book of Hebrews is a bit mysterious, as we don’t know the author or the specific intended audience. We do know, however, that the writer of Hebrews was speaking to a group of people persecuted for their association with Jesus. The author encourages listeners to “draw near” to God, with the full assurance that faith brings.

While you are likely not being persecuted because of your faith, consider the areas of your life that feel most draining, unsettling, and difficult. How can you draw near to God in those moments? Perhaps a breath prayer could be helpful. Breathe in and say “God, hold me close” and breathe out and say, “For you are near.” These moments of stillness can reveal to you the God who is always present.

Hold close the hope you have in Christ Jesus, for as the author says, “He who promised is faithful” (v. 23). Have hope, and draw near to the One who is faithful.
