Truth’s Evidence

November 28th, 2022

Colossians 1:1-8

When asked in John 9 about the legitimacy of Jesus, the formerly blind man who had encountered Jesus stated, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (v. 25). He’s declaring that the legitimacy of Jesus is demonstrated in the evidence of his transformation.

When asked by John the Baptist’s followers in Luke 7 if Jesus was the one they’d been waiting for or if there would be another, Jesus states, “The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor” (v. 22). Jesus suggests that His legitimacy is demonstrated in the evidence of change.

The truth and legitimacy of the gospel isn’t a matter of persuasive words or profound ideas. The truth of the gospel is demonstrated in the fruit it bears, the concrete evidence of transformation. If we’ve been changed by Jesus, we are the evidence of truth.
