Wind and Trees

November 25th, 2022

Psalm 1:1-6

Where I live, we get terrible windstorms that knock over trees, power lines, and tear off roofs. During one of the storms, the wind pulled many trees out by the roots, blocking roads and knocking out power lines for over a week. I learned that the trees that fell over had shallow, or weak roots. Combine that with high winds and soft soil, these trees did not stand a chance. Before the storm, all the trees looked alike. It was only when the winds came that the truth was revealed.

Psalm 1 talks about two types of people: the happy/blessed and the wicked. The wicked are shown as being chaotic, shallow, and easily tossed about by the storms of life. The happy/blessed have deep roots the hold them firm in the storms and prevent them from drying up in the droughts.

When the storms of life come are you like the wicked blown about and frantic or are you planted firm in God trusting that He will give you the strength to make it through?
