Exodus 16:21-30

Often when you ask someone how they are doing, the answer comes back, “I’m busy.” We feel a strong urge to do more in less time. We want our accomplishments to astound, but we don’t want to devote any more time to cause that astonishment.

There’s a famous scene from the classic TV show “I Love Lucy” when Lucy and Ethel go to work in a candy factory. Demoted to the wrapping department, they are informed by the forewoman that if one piece gets by them unwrapped, they’ll be fired. After she yells, “Let ‘er roll,” the conveyor belt slowly picks up speed; Lucy and Ethel begin eating candies or hiding them in their hats and clothes just so not a single candy will get by them unwrapped. When the forewoman checks on them, she’s amazed at their success and instructs someone down the line to speed the conveyor belt up a little.

Friends, don’t “let ‘er roll.” God did not create us in a way that we could be constantly productive. We all need rest, so rest this week.
