Ephesians 4:1-7

On October 8, 2008, the Church of the Nazarene around the world experienced its centennial celebration. The theme, “Out of Many, One. Out of One, Many” was symbolic of both the church’s beginnings as well as its current position within the world as a major denomination of Christianity. Out of one denomination, the membership now is approximately 2.6 million.

This theme can also apply to the Early Church. “Out of Many, One” represents the Jews and Gentiles who came together as one in Christ. “Out of One, Many” represents the Church gathered and then scattered to make disciples.

Paul exhorts the Christians to love, forgive, and live in unity with humility, gentleness, and patience. It is each Christian’s responsibility to live in unity displaying these virtues. This is possible through grace, the free gift of Christ, and the hope of a future with one Lord, Jesus Christ. The best sermons are preached through a life well-lived—one that consistently pleases God.
