Acts 2:36-47

Sitting on a hillside among a crowd with eyes glued on a portable screen, the sound of people sobbing pierced the evening darkness. The screen revealed Jesus dying on a cross. After the movie, many made their way forward to accept Jesus as the Messiah. This brought unbelievers together with Jesus’ followers in unity of spirit and purpose. What kind of Church was this?

Five results characterized the Early Church. They were faithful and unswerving in their devotion. They were listening and learning doctrine from the apostles. They were experiencing fellowship, togetherness, as they blended together. They participated in Communion services. They prayed in one accord.

They sensed the moving of the Holy Spirit as they marveled at the miracles God performed. The greatest miracle was the evidence of their oneness in Jesus Christ. This miracle did not escape the world outside the Church. “The Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (v. 47). Are we each contributing to build a winsome Church?
