Tools for the Journey

Hebrews 12:1-8
There is a lot in life to trip us up in our faith journey. Life can be so hard, full of tragedies and frustrations that tempt us to throw in the towel at any given opportunity. However, we are not left alone in our temptations; God has given us tools to help us along the way.
One of the ways we are strengthened is by knowing that we are adopted as God’s children, and, like all good parents, God must discipline us. We are not to lose heart when there is difficulty set before us, because God is there to instruct and train us in the way we should go.
Another way we are empowered is by the presence of community, or “a great cloud of witnesses,” for us to be encouraged by as we “run with perseverance the race marked out for us,” (v. 1). There are people who are there to help bolster our resolution as we continue on our journey of faith. Whatever is thrown at us, we can rest easy in the knowledge that we are not alone.
