1 Corinthians 3:10-17

Over the past several weeks, my four-year-old and I have been observing construction workers busy on a corner lot. I knew what kind of building would be built—without seeing an official sign or reading an announcement. The open pit spaces in the foundation revealed a new oil change business would soon be opening.

Foundations are critical. Without a properly installed foundation you end up with a building like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Foundations can be the determining factor in a solid construction or a haphazard property.

Paul writes to the church in Corinth, reminding them that Christ is the one true, solid foundation on which our lives are built. If we fail to build upon Christ, our lives become lopsided. Claiming to be Christian, attending church, doing good works are all good, but are not a foundation—merely the framing that goes up on the foundation. When we submit our lives to Christ and allow Christ to guide us, we have then put down a solid foundation.
