Romans 3:1-8

The older I get the more aware I am of the persistent influence of generational dysfunction and brokenness. I hear stories of emotionally traumatic experiences and see the marks of hurt and discord in my own life and others. On a recent drive across town, I was reminded of one story in particular and became overwhelmed with a sense of lost potential and unfulfilled dreams. My spirit cried out, “surely there is One who will redeem these instances of personal and corporate sin! Surely our God knows the damage we create and endure and at the completion of all things will make it right!”

For many, the pain of failure, betrayal, and faithlessness is fertile ground for disbelief in a loving faithful God. It can be difficult to reconcile the goodness of God amidst the throbbing inconsistencies of our world. The biblical narrative offers another perspective though, that of a God who continually and ultimately turns toward us in grace-filled invitation.
