John 15:1-13

Matt had a fast-growing vine on his fence. He tried repeatedly to remove it so passersby could see his decorations. He had no success until he could find the source vine that was feeding the other branches.

John 15 tells us to remain in God’s love like the branch does to the vine. In other words, we should take our life and strength from Christ. God has loved us with agape love which Jesus showed us is cross-type love.

When we love our families, neighbors, and the world with unselfish, sacrificial, and sincere compassion, it is contagious. It will grow as fast as the vines on Matt’s fence. It will transform its environment. The source, however, must come from Jesus each day.

What the world needs now is people who are being loved by God with that kind of love. John Wesley’s rule says, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” (Pastoral Practices: Beacon Hill Press, p. 86)
