God’s Love Is To Be Shared

Nehemiah 5:1-10
Life can get busy. All the details of life can take a great amount of our time. We can even experience busyness within the church. Attending worship, teaching Sunday School, being a part of a committee, taking meals to shut-ins, and so on can add to our already busy lives.
During the rebuilding of the wall, Nehemiah faced a socioeconomic problem: a) the landless needed food, 2) landowners were mortgaging their property to pay taxes, and 3) people who had to borrow money at high interest rates were selling their children into slavery. Their own people were taking advantage of them. In response, Nehemiah called those who were doing wrong to set things right with those they had hurt.
As I read this story, I am reminded of the fact that despite the busyness of life, I must always keep love at the center of the things I say and do.
In the busyness of life, let us stop, take a breath, and refocus our hearts and minds on expressing God’s love to those we encounter every day.
