Ezra 10:9-17

At times there are no easy answers or simple solutions. The wrongs that people have done are tangled up in the lives of others; their sin affects the entire community.

As the people gathered together in Jerusalem, sitting in the square before the house of the LORD, they were distressed and trembling, due to the matter before them. The words they heard had serious implications for many families. And yet, even though it must be done, it matters how it is done.

The people were given time; together they asked that this might be done well, as well as possible. It was not pushed aside or left undone, but respect and value were given to those affected. Ezra sought to lead this people, as God instructed, as well as he was able in the midst of these real-life implications.

What does it look like to lead during hard situations? Perhaps, like Ezra, listening is key, both to the instruction of God and to the anxiety of the people.
