God’s Love In: Fear Out

1 John 4:7-21
There is no fear in love. Perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
What does the term love mean today? We love to travel, sing, draw, act. We love sports, music, movies, toys. The word love has become overused in our language. It’s no wonder we have trouble clearly understanding what love means in Scripture.
John, however, wants to be clear: God is love. God’s love is fully revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Love is not something we can horde or limit. Just as God who is love was thrust compassionately into the world, so God’s love abiding in us must be given. Real Jesus-love evokes our love because we’re not the source of love.
Whom might we love today with the ever-expanding, fearless love of Jesus in us?
