1 Peter 1:1-9

My paternal grandparents have both now passed. Several years ago they decided to start giving certain items to particular members of the family. My great-grandmother’s passing had made an impression on my grandmother. All her worldly goods had been divided amongst the relatives based on a list she had created. No squabbling over who got what.

People get fussy, stingy, or greedy sometimes. Hard feelings crack even the strongest of bonds.

God’s inheritance is different. We come by it through our new life in Christ. It is a living, active inheritance. One we are meant to live and share in the present. God’s inheritance creates unity, peace, and generosity.

Of the material things I have from my grandparents, my inheritance from their spiritual life is what I treasure most. Their faithfulness to Christ, shaping their lives and therefore their children’s and grandchildren’s lives, is worth more than gold.

What inheritance do you claim? What inheritance will you leave?
