Acts 7:44-60

“Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” We’ve mostly dispelled that myth in today’s world of anti-bullying campaigns. We spend a great deal of time and energy teaching our children what not to say. How much time, however, do we spend telling them how important it is to say encouraging things?

People we see as our enemies are often hurt and broken inside. The hurtful things they do and say are often their way of coping with a broken world.

God loves those people. We may not see their brokenness, but God does. His desire is for them to find true love and acceptance in Him. If that’s God’s desire, it also should be ours.

We are called to desire the best for those who give us their worst. We are called to pray that God would show them as much love and mercy as He has shown us. If we are truly seeking to be the people God has created us to be, we must make the desires of His heart to be our own.
