Leviticus 19:1-10

In Leviticus, Moses tells the people what it looks like for them to live as a people who reflect God’s holiness to the world. God commands His people not to get every speck of usable food from their fields. Leave some of the harvest for others. The world teaches us that this is a gross misuse of resources. It makes no sense, especially when you consider that the people it is left for are poor and foreigners—people who did not work for this food.

The world does not know the amazing grace that God has shown us. We live in world that God gave us as a gift. We breathe air that God put in our lungs. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we have forgiveness and life. We have received so much from God that we could never earn, and He does not ask us to pay for it. Instead, God invites us to be like Jesus, to share the gifts God has graciously given to us with those who are hungry. And like God, we are called to give without asking whether it has been earned or can be repaid.
