Ephesian 5:28—6:9

“Have it your way!” was Burger King’s slogan for 40 years. In 2014, Burger King changed its slogan to “Be your way,” claiming the new motto was intended to elevate self-expression and celebrate our differences. That might sound catchy for selling burgers, but God calls Christians to prioritize unity by submitting to one another out of reverence to Christ.

In Ephesians 5:29, the husband’s love for his wife represents God’s desire to nurture his Bride, the Church. God loves us with all the passion a young groom has for his new bride. As the recipient of God’s greatest gift (salvation), Christians are compelled to respond to our Savior’s transformational love by embarking on a journey that leads us to become people whose actions reflect God. Through the Holy Spirit, God penetrates our everyday lives, uniting us in our love for Christ and calling us to become more like Him. Jesus suffered and died for His Church so that our life could be lived to the fullest.
