1 Timothy 2:1-8

1 Timothy introduces us to a fascinating overview of Christian holiness. In chapter 2, he offers us a dimensional view of holiness, and it brings this truth alive.

Holiness is not just following a disciplined list of things to do or not do. It is not just “resting,” as though we’ve reached a static plateau, to await the next step. Holiness is multi-dimensional, and 1 Timothy 2 reference reveals it.

The active dimension of holiness is the aggressive action of offering petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving for all people. This holiness mirrors Jesus, engaged in people’s lives, entering into their situations with His power and grace. We too follow Jesus into the lives of others as we follow these instructions.

There is a “quiet” dimension as well, where we live peaceful, quiet, godly, and holy lives. The exterior dimension of holiness is active. The interior dimension of holiness is worshipful, experiencing communion with God.
