Luke 4:1-13

Have you ever been asked who you were? Perhaps when you were in school and the first day the teacher took roll: you had to respond when your name was called. You were identified. You were distinguishing who you were.

Our names are often the first, and easiest way of identifying each other. Like it or not your moniker is wrapped up tightly with your identity. Jesus, as Luke points out, is the “Son of God.” John the Baptist, who had been telling people about the coming Messiah, identified Jesus. Here was the One I’ve been telling you all about!

After his baptism, Jesus—the Son of God—was “led by the Spirit into the wilderness” and tested (v. 1). Who are you really Jesus and will you remain faithful to who you are?

The people of Israel wandered around in the dry desert for 40 years, having failed to be faithful to God. Even during their wanderings, they failed to fully trust in the Lord. Unlike these followers of God, Jesus is faithful. Throughout each three tests, Jesus proves that he is the Son of God, and he is faithful.

Jesus, the Son of God, can be trusted.
