John 2:13-25

Do you remember the optical illusion posters from several years ago? To simply look at them, all you could see was a confusing mass of squiggles. They made no sense. But there was a trick to seeing the hidden picture in the midst of the confusion: you focused not on the surface but beneath. Whatever the artist meant for you to see would appear when you focused on the right part of the picture.

John describes Jesus’ visit to the Temple: he was angry at the disregard and misconception about the Temple. He saw a few people making money from people coming to worship the Father: a grubby marketplace where a sanctuary should be. When he cleared it, the profiteers questioned his authority to do so. How can you do this?! Go ahead, Jesus stated, tear down this temple and I will rebuild it in three days. Impossible!

The people were focusing on the squiggly lines and blur of color. They were missing the picture the Father intended them to see: God loves them and has a different way of living for them. The kingdom of God is different from our human kingdoms. Allow God to help you see it today.
