Learning the Ropes

If you have ever been around a toddler, you may have noticed how quickly they learn new words, behaviors, and skills every day. When we intentionally work with our children to teach them new things, there is no end to what they can learn. Hearing someone so new to the world say, “more please,” is amazing!
In John 14 Jesus was preparing his disciples for life after his departure. Undoubtedly they were confused—they didn’t understand Jesus’ mission in the first place much less their mission after he left. Regardless of their comprehension, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to guide and continue teaching them. Just like a small child, Jesus knew that his followers would need an intentional teacher. The Holy Spirit guides, teaches, and reminds Jesus’ followers of all that Jesus taught them (whether they understood it at the time or not).
