Jeremiah 36:20-32

Jesus warned that those who follow him will be despised by those who do not (Matt. 10:22). In our passage today, we read that the Word of God was presented to people who found it highly offensive. As a result, they had the document completely destroyed. However, in an act of commitment to God’s Word, Jeremiah and Baruch created another.

Today, that level of being offended is no different. The Word of God is still powerful, effective, and challenging, and still finds people who would rather destroy it than embrace it. I suspect this will always be true. I also suspect that there will always be people like Jeremiah and Baruch who will not be defeated. God is still rising up those who, in spite of violent opposition, will insist on upholding God’s Word.

Notice the partnership evidenced in this passage. I do not believe it is coincidence that there are two men doing battle against the enemies of God’s Word. In the face of those whom Jesus warned us about we stand united, we stand victorious, we stand as one.
